On June 1st, 2022 a group of seven developer and IT Infrastructure interns, from rising sophomores in high school to freshmen in college, have joined ISoft Data Systems Inc. team! The program will take place for two months this summer and the participants will engage in a variety of hands-on projects, learning sessions from the company experts, and networking opportunities.
On the first day they were welcomed by the senior staff, got to know each other, heard the history of the company, and hopes and expectations for the summer program. Interns got a tour of the Turbine Flats building and learned about the significance and structure of the company products. Lastly, they enjoyed some delicious chicken for lunch with other employees.
During the first week interns worked on creating personal pages in WordPress, which allowed them to practice newly gained skills, give a sneak peak in their lives, and get to know other team members. Most liked tutorial session was the one where they learned to operate a 3D printer and a laser cutter, and later used those skills to create small tools and office décor. Other learning sessions provided exposure to internal and external development and data visualization tools, database structures and data retrieval.
For some this is a first job, and for others this is a first experience working in a technology company. When talking about their initial reaction and adjustment to the new role, interns mentioned that the work environment is friendly and casual, and they look forward to working on projects, some of which involve the use of raspberry pi, a combination of various coding languages, design skills, working with a customer and other.
